#EmbraceEquity for IWD2023: Building a Hybrid Team Culture that Works for Everyone

International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023 focused on the theme #embraceequity, sparking debates worldwide on what this means for women at different levels of the organisation and in different stages of their careers. In this blog post, we explore how to create a team culture that supports equity and inclusivity, particularly in a hybrid work environment.

As a women-founded business, this month, our attention turns to what #embraceequity might mean for a team and a hybrid team. We build on our previous discussion of the four key elements that make up a hybrid team culture: convening the team, connecting with one another, contracting clearly, and communicating often and consistently. Each of these requires a critical review to ensure that they #embraceequity and enable women to make their best contribution to the team.

For example, is the team being convened at a time that considers the responsibilities of working mothers who have early morning childcare duties? Does connecting happen informally, such as over after-work drinks, which may not be accessible to everyone? Are women expected to do invisible work on the team, such as mentoring or checking in on team member's wellbeing? Does communication suit all styles in the team?

At Teamery, we focus on building better teams, knowing that diverse and inclusive teams perform better across a range of metrics, from financial performance to innovation. As the IWD23 celebrations come to a close, we invite you to reflect and review your team practices and consciously ensure that you're building conditions that #embraceequity. We would love to partner with you on this journey.
